A great shower is not just about tile that looks good on day one. It is a system: layout, waterproofing, slope, drains, and finishing details all need to work together so the shower stays clean, solid, and trouble-free for the long term.

Start to Finish, Not Piece by Piece

Our shower planning process follows a precise sequence: design and layout, waterproofing and prep, uncoupling and heat (when applicable), mortar and grout, then profiles and drains.

Waterproofing and preparation are where shower projects are protected or put at risk.

Waterproofing and Preparation

To prevent bacteria from building up and avoid irreparable damage behind the tile, waterproofing must be taken seriously. Your materials should be designed to protect the assembly and reduce the risk of failures, such as tile and stone delamination.

Waterproofing options include:

  • Liquid applied waterproofing (two coat roller or brush application), with crack isolation capacity up to 1/8 in (3 mm).
  • Sheet applied waterproofing membrane that acts as a bonded waterproof membrane and vapour barrier (polyethylene with a fleece webbing to support bonding).
  • Please let us know if the shower is part of a complete bathroom renovation or a retrofit. Preparation requirements can change.

Drain Planning and Water Management

Drain location and slope should not be afterthoughts. A pre-sloped shower base helps keep water moving to where it needs to go, and good drain planning keeps the project clean and refined.

The shower base system shown in your materials includes pre-sloped bases, a built-in drain assembly, and flexibility in terms of size, shape, and drain placement.

Share your shower size and preferred drain location. It affects the layout and the build.

Niches, Benches, and Curbs

The details people notice most are often the functional ones.

System materials we can advise on include:

  • Pre-waterproofed niches that are lightweight, vapour-resistant, and available in multiple sizes for wall tile shower systems.
  • Building panels that support shower construction, including the straightforward creation of shower benches.
  • Pre-waterproofed curbs that are lightweight, easy to cut to size, and ready to install.

If you're looking for a niche, bench, or custom curb detail, please send us your inspiration photos. We will clearly outline the build requirements upfront.

The Big Picture

A shower install is a chain of decisions. When layout, waterproofing, slope, drains, and finishing details are treated as a cohesive plan, the result feels intentional and performs as it should.
